CLASS 101 (and 102): The class 101 'Met-Cam' fleet was one of the most successful designs of first generation DMU and lasted in service until December 2003, at which point the last survivors had clocked up 47 years service. 633 vehicles were built between 1956 and 1960 in 2-, 3- and 4-car sets for the London Midland, North Eastern and Scottish regions, originally with AEC (class 101) and Leyland (class 102) engines.
This is Norwich Crown Point set (NC)65, formed 51189+54343, seen at Cromer whilst working the 0945 Norwich - Sheringham service on 2nd August 1991. 51189 was new in December 1958 as part of a DMBS-DTCL pair allocated to Walsall Rycroft; 54343 (new as 56343) was originally paired with 51185 from the same batch, new the previous month to Monument Lane depot in Birmingham. 54343 was withdrawn from Longsight depot in July 2000 and subsequently preserved.
