Class 318: The 21 class 318 sets are 3-car AC-only units to the 317/2 design, built at York from 1985 for the 1986 Ayrshire electrification scheme and appearing from new in SPTE 'red' and black. Their appearance changed during a 2005-2007 refurbishment scheme by Hunslet Barclay, Kilmarnock, which created a more spacious cab by removal of the corridor connection. Displaced in Ayrshire by class 380s from 2010, they now work Argyll and North Clyde line duties with the later class 320s, with which they are compatible.
This view at Glasgow Central shows 318259 in as-bult condition.
