455735 CLJ 03/07/89
Class 455: The 'DC' version of the Mark III EMUs were classes 455 (4-car) and 456 (2-car). The 455s entered service from 1982 on the South Central and South West divisions. The first batch were class 455/8, before modification to the cabs for the later 455/7 and 455/9 batches. The 455/7s include a TSO recovered from class 508 units which transferred to Merseyside, and which have a different body profile.
I probably pointed my camera at 455735 approaching Clapham Junction on 3rd July 1989 because it still carried blue and grey livery, some three years after the launch of NSE. I'm glad I did - it's my only shot of one in original livery. In addition to the red lamp posts and NSE station signage, the 455 itself carries the NSE flash. Note the second vehicle of this 455/7 is a class 508 trailer.
